20th Century and Beyond
Throughout the Twentieth Century Llandudno continued to develop both as a resort and a community. This was the Golden Age of entertainment from funfairs, donkey rides, and variety shows in the early 1900’s, to films, video arcades, and even the Beatles in 1963. The effects of World War 1 and World War 2 saw a decrease in traditional values, an economic depression, industrial unrest, and finally the protection of the Welsh language.
In Llandudno, the first suffrage society in Wales was formed in 1907 at the Cocoa House. The last of the influential Mostyn family residents left the county, and innovative new businesses rose to meet tourist needs. From the first motor car to the first moon landing, Llandudno’s community and industry adapted, and continues to adapt, to meet the demands of a new age.
